Scottish Hairdresser of the Year 2018 in Prestigious British Hairdressing Awards

Now in its fourth decade, the British Hairdressing Awards hosted by Hairdressers Journal International has been supported since its inception by Schwarzkopf Professional.  The awards continue to go from strength-to-strength in their quest to celebrate the most diverse and creative of talents in hairdressing. Karen Thomson of KAM Hair and Body Spa in Lossiemouth, was announced as Scottish Hairdresser of the Year 2018. Hosted by Rylan Clark-Neal and Executive Director of Hairdressers Journal International, Jayne Lewis-Orr, Karen was invited on stage in front of previous winners, household names and industry icons to collect her award.

The iconic photographic competition requires hairdressing professionals and artistic teams from across the country to create a collection of eight images that showcase their creativity and technical ability. Entrants are able to choose from regional and specialist categories including Afro, Artistic Team, Avant Garde, Men’s, Newcomer and Schwarzkopf Professional British Colour Technician of the Year.

Rylan Clark-Neal set the tone of the evening, held at the Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott Hotel. Once the nine regional winners were announced, with Karen Thomson scooping the fantastic Scottish Hairdresser of the Year 2018 category, the audience were treated to a capsule set from Scouting for Girls. For Karen, winning this award is an incredible achievement being from a small salon in Lossiemouth where there is no town centre or passing trade and something Karen has inspired to achieve throughout her hairdressing career.

Karen was overjoyed; I am absolutely over the moon to have won the Scottish Hairdresser of the Year category, I can’t quite believe it.  To have won being up against so many fantastic industry experts in these prestigious awards is incredible, it’s such as fantastic achievement and I’m so grateful. What a way to end 2018!

I’d like to extend my warmest congratulations to Karen for demonstrating fantastic technical dexterity as evidenced in the collection she submitted, and also for being such a great ambassador for British hairdressing.
